Incremental encoders are not absolute measuring devices. To obtain absolute measured values, referencing is always required after power-up and following a signal error. The Irinos Box SC-INC offers the following referencing options:

oReferencing via a reference mark
The count value is reset to 0 when the reference mark is passed.

oReferencing via software command:
The count value can be set via software at any time. Both the value 0 and any other value can be set.

 

This action can be carried out via the DLL interface (NmxDLL: NMX_ChannelSetParameter_1, MscDLL: opcSP / 0x35).

 

In some applications, it may be useful or even necessary to activate reference mark processing during a measurement and then deactivate it afterwards.

Please note that the Irinos-Box SC-INC can only provide the technical capability for referencing. The procedure for referencing the measured value depends on the specific measurement sequence. This must therefore be taken into account during the planning phase. In particular, you should also consider the procedure to be followed following the occurrence of an incremental encoder error.
