Selection of the location

The Irinos boxes are field devices suitable for use both in enclosed housings, e.g. in a control cabinet, and for placement on or near the measuring device.

Particularly in the case of larger systems, placement near the measuring device is preferable. This offers two key advantages:

The cables for the probe, incremental encoders and other sensors can be kept very short. This ensures that the quality of the analogue signals at the measurement input is particularly good. Furthermore, this simplifies cable routing away from potential sources of interference.

Replacing a probe, for example in the event of a fault, is easier.

 

To ensure trouble-free operation of the Irinos system, please note the following:

Always position the Irinos boxes away from potential sources of interference, such as inverters or motor cables.

 

An important factor when selecting a suitable location is the IP protection rating. Whilst most Irinos components are also available in a version with a particularly high IP protection rating, suitable connectors for the connected cables are required to ensure this rating is maintained. However, most standard probes and incremental encoders on the market have connectors with a low protection rating (e.g. IP00 or IP40). To achieve the required protection rating, these connectors would need to be replaced.

It is therefore advisable to position the Irinos boxes in such a way that a low IP protection rating is sufficient, or where no IP protection is required at all.

 

The Irinos boxes generate very little heat themselves and are designed for standard industrial ambient temperatures. Furthermore, the integrated measurement electronics are particularly temperature-stable.

Nevertheless, choose a location with moderate ambient temperatures. The permissible temperature range is specified in the relevant data sheet. In particular, avoid placing them near heat sources such as heat sinks from other devices or heating elements.
